Hamas commented on the decision to create the position of Vice President

Hamas said in a statement that “the Central Council meeting has disappointed in achieving a real unit to confront the war of constant extermination on the Gaza Strip, and the escalation of the occupation in the West Bank and Jerusalem,” adding that “the main factions boycotted the meeting in rejecting attempts to dominate and coup against the spirit of national partnership.”

The statement condemned what it described as the “crude insults” issued by President Mahmoud Abbas against it, and said that “the national circumstance requires circumventing the resistance factions, not stabbing them or holding them responsible for the occupation crimes.”

The movement called for “rebuilding the Palestine Liberation Organization, activating the temporary leadership framework, and holding comprehensive elections as a single way to restore unity,” stressing that “the Palestinian people deserve a unified leadership worthy of their sacrifices, not a leadership that reproduces failure and is subject to security coordination and external dictates.”

The Palestinian Central Council decided, with the overwhelming majority, to create the position of Vice -Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, President of the State of Palestine, during a meeting held Thursday.

170 members of the members present in the hall and the participants voted via remote contacts in favor of the decision, while one member objected, and another refrained from voting.

The decision stipulates that the deputy will be appointed from among the members of the Executive Committee, based on the nomination of the Chairman of the Committee and the approval of the members. The chairman of the committee is also entitled to assign the deputy to tasks, to exempt him from his position, or accept his resignation.
