Bethlehem- Ma’an- Tensions between Thailand and Cambodia escalated, and reported last night that there was an exchange of fire in the border area, while both countries claim that it is a “response” to shooting from the other side. It also reported that Thailand launched an F-16 attack on Military military targets.
The two countries exchanged accusations about the escalation, which began this morning near the Temple of T -Ming Thg in the disputed border area, about 360 km east of Bangkok. “We used the Air Force against military targets as planned,” said Richa Soxuanon, a deputy spokesman for the Thai army, to Reuters.
More than a century ago, Thailandicopodia was suspended in a conflict over sovereignty at unequivocal points along their wild borders, which extends 817 km. These tensions have led to repeated clashes and the killing of at least twelve people over the years, including a week -long artillery exchange in 2011.
The tensions were renewed in May of this year, following the killing of a Kamboudi soldier during a short shooting, which has escalated into a complete diplomatic crisis, now it seems that it has reached its climax and escalated into armed clashes and the use of combat aircraft.
Thailand Cambodia recently accused of planting ground mines in the disputed area, after two Thai soldiers were injured. Cambodia strongly denied these allegations, saying that Thai soldiers deviated from the agreed paths and blew an ancient mine of the civil war.
In response to the deterioration of the situation, Thailand summoned the Cambodian ambassador on Wednesday evening and announced his expulsion from Bangkok. The next day, with the outbreak of fighting, it was reported that civilians were injured.
“Artillery shells landed on people’s homes,” said Sotirot Chaironethalasak, head of the Kaveshang region in the Thai province of Surin, describing the shooting from the Cambodian side.
He added that civilians were killed in the attacks, and that the regional authorities postponed 40,000 civilians from 86 villages near the border to safer places.
