Brussels- Ma’an- The European Union condemned, today, Monday, the “killing” of five journalists of Al-Jazeera channel in an Israeli air strike near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, including the channel’s correspondent, Anas Sharif.
“The European Union condemns the killing of five Al -Jazeera journalists in an Israeli raid,” said Kaya Callas Foreign Policy Officer, after a virtual meeting of the foreign ministers of the Union to discuss the war in Gaza.
The Israeli army accused Anas al -Sharif, of leading a “cell” of Hamas and responsibility for “facilitating missile attacks” against Israeli targets, but Callas stressed the need to provide clear evidence in such cases, in compliance with the rule of law, and to prevent the targeting of journalists.
Callas pointed out that the European Union is still divided into taking a unified position on the war, between supporters of Israel and defenders of the Palestinians, stressing that an agreement was reached last month to increase the arrival of aid to Gaza was not fully implemented.
Callas called on Israel to allow more aid to enter and improve their distribution, adding: “Although more trucks enter, the needs are still much greater.”
